July Club Meeting

Sorry, it's been awhile since the last update here.  It's already July, and it's time to meet up again!  We're getting together July 22nd, 2017 at 4:30pm.  The meeting will be held at Daytona Beach Brewing Company.   Come on by, even if you've never been to a meeting before.  There's no membership fee, we'd be happy to meet you.

Bring your enthusiasm for homebrewing, and a sample or two if you've got them!

Volusia Homebrewers at Hogtown

This year brought the Volusia Homebrewers back to the Hogtown Craft Beer Festival for a second year.  After last year, I think we stepped up our game a bit.  We brought 12 different beers to the Festival, every one unique and a favorite of the group.  Reception was great!

Besides that, there were more than 100 brewers with their best product out on display from all over Florida and beyond.  The hosting Hogtown club does an amazing job with this festival every year, and we're incredibly happy to be a part.

My crazy dream next year is that we can bring even more of Volusia's unique home brewing to the festival and fill the test with Homebrewers passionate about the craft.  Until then though, keep on brewing!

Upcoming Sprint 2017 Events!

If you were watching the Facebook Group, you probably noticed that I posted events covering the next few months!  There's a lot coming up this spring, and here's some of it:

  • March 25th, Group Brew!
  • April 15th, April Home Brewers Meeting
  • April 22nd, Hogtown Beer Festival
  • May 12th, May Homebrewer's Happy Hour

Group Brew

So, the idea in March is to do a Group Brew together.  We won't be using the club system for this one, the idea is to bring your own recipe and share techniques.  It's a great time of year to get your lawnmower beer ready, make a Spring Wit, or brew up a big beer now so it's ready for next winter!  You could also brew up something to share for the Hogtown Beer Festival!

April Group Meeting

April is a bit busy, so I bumped the next Happy Hour until May.  We've got our normal meeting coming up on the third weekend of the month, April 15th, at Daytona Beach Brewing.

Hogtown Craft Beer Festival 2017

In April, there's also the aforementioned Hogtown Craft Beer Festival.  Even if you don't have a beer to share, I highly encourage you to come for the festival.  It's got to be one of the best festival spaces in the area, and the selection is HUGE.  There are a ton of special pourings all day long.

If you've got something you want to show off as a home brewer, it's the place to do it.  You are competing for attention with some of the best beers in the whole state.

May Homebrewer's Happy Hour

Finally, I've held the date for another Friday Night Happy Hour on May 12th at a Volusia County Beer Destination.  Come on out and just share a pint with some other home brewers without all the normal club business!

And there's more!

In May, there's also going to be a club meeting, and possibly another Tortuga's Craft Beer Festival.  Stay tuned!

Mad Monks 2017 Judging is Complete

All the beers entered in Mad Monks 2017 have been received, sorted, judged by a panel, and ranked. The full list of results are available from Reggie.  I'll be scanning scoresheets this week, it will take a bit to get through them all, but I'll send out an email when they're all up.

Until then, congratulations to our Winners and a huge thank you for everyone that volunteered and participated this year.

DeLand Craft Beer Festival - February 11th, 2017

DeLand Craft Beer Festival

The time has come for the 8th annual DeLand Craft Beer Festival and Volusia Beer Week. If you haven't already made your plans, now is the time!

When: February 11, 2017, 1:00pm to 5:00pm
Where: Historic Downtown DeLand, Indiana Ave

This year’s DeLand Craft Beer Festival will be held in a new and larger location. Still in the heart of Downtown DeLand, the new Indiana Avenue location will give us a much larger footprint so our vendors and guests won’t be as crowded as last year!

Mad Monks 2017 Judging

Mad Monks 2017 Judging

Belgian Beer Enthusiasts, and Beer Judges!

The 2017 Mad Monks Mashup is looking for experienced and BJCP Certified Beer judges for this weekend! Although we're not looking at a huge number of entries, the Belgian theme always draws some extraordinary beers. We'd like to make sure to give them the judging and feedback they deserve.

I'd like to make a special plea for any BJCP/Cicerone/Pro certified judges. Each judging pair really needs to have a certified judge. That said, if you aren't, we still very much have a need for you to help too.

It definitely helps out if you register ahead at:

February 4th Beer Judging, 11am to 6pm, Debary FL.
Additionally, you can contact me directly at:

Please pass this along to anyone who might have an interesting in joining us as a judge or a steward! We'd be so grateful for the help.
